Technical Data Analyst

Digital Strategy is seeking a Technical Data Analyst with strong data visualization and business intelligence skills to provide support to federal clients. The candidate will design, develop, and optimize interactive dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI, working closely with stakeholders to transform complex datasets into actionable insights.

Due to federal guidelines, US Citizenship is required and candidates must be able to pass a federal background check.

Specific duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Request access to relevant KMSO source system to learn hands on the business capabilities, user journey and data collected. Understands what data is collected to enable business processes and decision making.
Gains clear understanding of how data flows from source systems into data warehouses OR directly to PowerBI so that PBI can effectively be used to provide system level business insights and analytics.
Works to understand business processes and how systems and data enable the process steps, identifying when business processes are lacking and need to be created.
Collaborates with federal clients and Agile teams to gather and interpret business and functional requirements, translating them into scalable Power BI solutions.
Designs, develops, and maintains Power BI dashboards, reports, and paginated reports tailored to stakeholder needs, ensuring clarity and actionable insights.
Understands how to optimize SQL data models (star schema, snowflake) to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
Develops and fine-tunes DAX calculations and Power Query (M) transformations to enable advanced data analysis.
Can explore raw data from structured and unstructured sources (SQL Server, Oracle, Excel, SharePoint, text-based files) to gain insights into how it is managed in the central data warehouse for use in Power BI.
Utilizes advanced Power BI capabilities to extract, analyze, and summarize data into meaningful reports, charts, and performance indicators for diverse stakeholder groups.
Ensures data quality, consistency, and performance across all analytics deliverables.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance, Economics, Business, or similar majors.
10 years of total work experience; 2 years of experience may be substituted for Master’s degree.
7 years of overall experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence, including requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement.
3–5 years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including:
1) Building and optimizing data models (star/snowflake)
2) Writing and tuning DAX calculations
3) Developing Power Query (M) transformations
4) Creating and publishing interactive dashboards, reports, and paginated reports
Strong SQL skills with experience extracting, transforming, and analyzing data from SQL Server, Oracle, and other relational databases.
Experience preparing and integrating structured and unstructured data sources (e.g., Excel, SharePoint, text-based files) for enterprise reporting.
Familiarity with Power BI Service administration, including row-level security, workspace management, and governance policies.
Experience with other BI tools (Tableau, Oracle Analytics Server, Cognos) a plus, but Power BI expertise is required.
Proven ability to ensure data quality, standardization, and governance within reporting solutions.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to rapidly grasp, document, and present new information.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
