Senior Power BI Developer

Digital Strategy is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer with deep expertise in data visualization and reporting to support a federal client. This individual will focus on building impactful dashboards, optimizing data models, and ensuring data quality—while also collaborating with data engineering teams to enable scalable reporting solutions. The ideal candidate is a problem solver, continuous learner, and communicator with an eye for design (UI/UX).

Due to federal project guidelines, US citizenship is a requirement.

Specific duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Dashboard & Report Development: Design, develop, and maintain highly interactive Power BI dashboards, paginated reports, and scorecards tailored to diverse stakeholder needs.
Data Modeling: Build and optimize data models (star, snowflake schemas) to support enterprise reporting.
DAX & Power Query (M): Write and fine-tune DAX measures and Power Query transformations to enable advanced analytics.
Data Integration: Connect to and prepare data from diverse sources including SharePoint lists, SQL databases, and Dataverse, as well as other structured and unstructured sources (Excel, text files).
Row-Level Security (RLS): Implement and manage dynamic RLS in Power BI to ensure appropriate data access across diverse stakeholder groups.
Data Quality & Governance: Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with governance policies across all deliverables.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with data engineers to understand how data flows from source systems into data warehouses or directly into Power BI.
Performance Optimization: Monitor dashboard/report performance, applying best practices to improve speed and user experience.
Stakeholder Engagement: Translate complex datasets into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical users through clean, compelling visualizations.
Innovation: Stay current with new BI technologies, features, and design practices; recommend improvements to enhance the reporting ecosystem.
Provide HR leadership responsibilities for Business Analysts federated across delivery teams, including mentoring, performance feedback, and alignment with organizational standards.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, or related field.
8–10 years of total professional experience, with at least 6+ years in reporting/analytics.
3–5+ years of hands-on Power BI development, including:
o Building data models (star/snowflake)
o Writing DAX calculations
o Power Query transformations
o Developing paginated reports and dashboards
Strong SQL skills with experience extracting and analyzing data from SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent.
Proven experience collaborating with business stakeholders to capture requirements and deliver BI solutions.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain data insights to non-technical audiences.
Due to federal project guidelines, US citizenship is a requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Power BI Service administration (RLS, workspace management, governance).
Familiarity with other BI tools (Tableau, Cognos, Oracle Analytics Server) a plus.
UI/UX design principles applied to data visualization.
Experience preparing structured and unstructured data sources for enterprise reporting.
Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor Business Analysts, ensuring consistency in backlog management, reporting standards, and cross-team collaboration.
